One App to Track Movies, TV, Books, Games and More
Hey. Before LaterRex, my "things to get to" lived in about five different places. A watchlist in one app, a to-read pile in another, a games backlog I kept meaning to sort out, and a stack of recommendations from friends scattered across screenshots and group chats I never went back to. Every app did its one job fine. The problem was that there were five of them, and none of them talked to each other.
So that's the whole idea behind LaterRex: a recommendations tracker for everything you watch, read, play and listen to, all under one roof. Movies, tv shows, books, games, podcasts and music, in one app, with your friends' recs built right in.
One library beats five apps
Single-medium trackers are great right up until your life stops fitting in a single medium. You finish a film someone recommended, want to note the book it was based on, then remember a friend swore by the game. That's three apps, three logins, three separate piles, and no way to answer the only question that actually matters: what do I want to get to next?
LaterRex keeps one library for all of it. Everything sits in the same place, tagged with what it is and what status it's in. You open one app and see the whole picture instead of a sixth of it.
It's not just a list
Saving something is the easy bit. The app's built for the whole life of a title, from "maybe one day" to "loved it, would happily go again"
- Four honest statuses - backlog, in progress, finished, abandoned. No guilt, no judgement. Giving up on something is a perfectly fine outcome.
- Ratings, reviews and a journal - rate out of 10 when you're done, write a review if you've got something to say, and log every rewatch, reread or replay as its own entry.
- Real numbers per type - episodes for shows, hours for games, progress for books. Each medium's tracked the way that medium actually works.
- Stats that tell you something - watch time, favorite genres, an activity calendar, and the odd fun fact pulled from your own data.
The part no single tracker does
Here's the bit I couldn't find anywhere else, and the reason I started building. The best recommendations come from people, not algorithms. So LaterRex puts your friends right in the middle of it.
Send a movie, show, book, game, podcast or album straight to a friend, with a note on why. It works even if they're not on LaterRex yet. Stuck for ideas? Ask your friends and let them throw some back. And when someone finally watches the thing you've been going on about for six months, you'll actually know. No chat, no feed, just recs, all in one place. The good ones stop quietly disappearing into the group chat.
But can one app really do all of it well?
Fair question, and a jack-of-all-trades reputation is usually earned. LaterRex pulls proper data for each medium from the sources that specialize in it, so a film looks like a film and a book looks like a book, with the cast, the cover art, the release dates and the rest. The goal was never "good enough at everything." It was one app that handles each type properly, built natively in SwiftUI, for iOS, so it feels like it belongs on your iPhone.
How it stacks up
I'm a big fan of the apps that nail one medium. Letterboxd for film, Goodreads for books, and plenty of others each own their corner. LaterRex isn't out to replace the love you've got for any of them. It's for the moment you notice you're tracking more than one kind of thing and would rather not keep five apps in sync by hand. If you want the side by side, the feature comparison on the homepage lays it out.
Your library stays yours
One thing I won't budge on. No ads, no trackers, no analytics, nothing sold to anyone, ever. Your library lives on your LaterRex account so it can sync to your other devices and the web, and I don't look at it: it's only accessed to run the service, fix a problem, or help when you ask. The privacy policy spells out the rest. Privacy here is the default, not a setting you have to go and find.
Give it a go
LaterRex is on the App Store and needs iOS 26 or later, and it runs in your browser at app.laterrex.com too. Import what you've already logged on IMDb, Letterboxd, Goodreads, Trakt or TV Time in a couple of minutes, and your whole library's in one place. It's already good. Honest feedback is what makes it better.
